Dr. Alberto Bartolome is Principal Investigator at the Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas (CSIC/UAM). His lab (https://bit.ly/3slXPej) focuses on the study of the genetic determinants of beta-cell mass.

Dr. Bartolomé completed his PhD studies in 2012 at the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain), where he specialized in beta cell research and insulin/mTORC1 signaling. In 2013, he joined the lab of Dr. Utpal Pajvani at Columbia University (New York, USA), where he researched the role of the Notch signaling pathway in adult beta cells, among other studies that revolved around the relationship between beta-cell maturity and proliferation.

Dr. Bartolomé is currently building a lab that aims to unravel some genetic determinants that explain the heterogeneity of beta-cell mass in humans. Some of the methods that support his current investigation rely on protocols for the differentiation of pluripotent stem cells into the pancreatic lineage and CRISPR-mediated screenings to identify relevant genes.
