Dr. Amina Mohammadalipour received her PhD in Biophysics from Ohio University in 2015. A central objective of her research was to understand how the mechanical properties of cancer cells were linked to features of stemness. During her postdoctoral training, she shifted her attention to cell adhesion proteins as well as the impact of the biomechanics of cancer cells on extracellular matrix remodeling. Currently, Dr. Mohammadalipour is a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Dr. Pamela Wenzel at the McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). At her current position, Dr. Mohammadalipour is applying her training as a biophysicist to better understand how mechanical features of cancer cells influence their ability to metastasize and contribute to cancer progression. She is particularly interested in the effects of cell stiffness and deformability on mechanosensitivity of the cell to external forces in the tumor microenvironment.
