Dr. Yang works at the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience as a Postdoctoral Fellow. Her Ph.D. studies at Indiana University Bloomington focused on the mechanism of maintaining axonal health, which is critical for maintaining cognitive function resilience in aging brains. She aims to investigate the energy supply mechanism in postsynaptic compartments of neuronal dendrites, implicated in the pathophysiology of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), as part of her postdoctoral training. She believes that the unifying principles and molecular underpinnings underlying synaptic energy failure and motor circuit dysfunction in ALS will be uncovered via her work. She is hopeful that the knowledge gained from this research will pave the way for new therapeutics to fight ALS and other mitochondria-related diseases.
