Dr Gabriel Paës is a Research Director at the National Institute for Research on Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE), working in the Fractionation of AgroResources and Environment (FARE) laboratory in Reims, France. He is the Chairman of Exploring Lignocellulosic Biomass international meeting. His research focuses on improving our understanding on the recalcitrance of lignocellulosic biomass when hydrolyzed by enzymes after their pretreatment. Multimodal and multiscale physical, chemical, spectral and imaging techniques (including F-techniques) provide data to feed a deconstruction model to optimize pretreatment and hydrolysis conditions. Before joining INRAE in 2009, Dr Paës received his PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology on the engineering of hemicellulases from the University of Reims Champagne Ardenne in 2005. He carried out post-doctoral research at the University of Nantes in 2006 on combining molecular modelling and robotics tools to investigate motions in enzymes and at INRAE in 2007 in Marseille working on the engineering of filamentous fungi to integrate new genes. He also worked in the biotech sector in a private company in 2008-2009.
