Dr. Wendy Boehmler is the chair and associate professor of Biological Sciences at York College of Pennsylvania. In 2006, she received her PhD in cell and molecular biology from The Penn State College of Medicine. Her doctoral research examined zebrafish, Danio rerio, as a model system to study dopamine-related neurological disorders. She characterized the D2-like dopamine and the A2 adenosine receptor genes in this model organism.
Dr. Boehmler continues to use the zebrafish model at York College with undergraduate researchers, inspiring studies on genetics, teratogenicity, neurodevelopment, and behavior. She also incorporates it into her neurobiology course, giving students hands-on experience with this vital research model.
