Hl-60 Cells

HL-60 cells are a human promyelocytic leukemia cell line used as an in vitro model of myeloid cell development and function. Under defined culture conditions, agents such as dimethyl sulfoxide or all-trans retinoic acid can induce their differentiation into neutrophil-like cells, while other chemical cues promote alternative myeloid phenotypes. In bioengineering, researchers use HL-60 cells to study cell differentiation, migration, oxidative responses, and interactions with biomaterials or engineered tissue environments. Their rapid growth and experimentally controllable phenotype make them useful for evaluating disease mechanisms, drug responses, and immune-cell-based platforms, although results require validation in primary human cells.

This article describes the technique used to perform dual channel optical mapping in cultured HL-1 atrial cell monolayers. This unique protocol allows the simultaneous visualization of both calcium (Ca) and voltage (Vm) activity in the same area for the detailed detection and analysis of electrophysiological properties of culture monolayers.

Here we present a protocol for the fabrication of C60/graphene hybrid nanostructures by physical thermal evaporation. Particularly, the proper manipulation of deposition and annealing conditions allow the control over the creation of 1D and quasi 1D C60 structures on rippled graphene.

Systematic Analysis of In Vitro Cell Rolling Using a Multi-well Plate Microfluidic System

2013

This study used a multi-well plate microfluidic system, significantly increasing throughput of cell rolling studies under physiologically relevant shear flow. Given the importance of cell rolling in the multi-step cell homing cascade and the importance of cell homing following systemic delivery of exogenous populations of cells in patients, this system offers potential as a screening platform to improve cell-based therapy.
