Piezo Ceramic

Piezo ceramics are ceramic materials that convert mechanical deformation into electrical charge and electrical signals into mechanical motion, making them important for sensing and actuation. This piezoelectric behavior arises from non-centrosymmetric crystal structures: applied stress displaces internal charges, while an external electric field causes the material to expand, contract, or vibrate. In bioengineering, piezo ceramics support ultrasound transducers, implantable and wearable sensors, microfluidic actuators, and devices for monitoring physiological forces. Their fast electromechanical response and compact form enable precise interaction with biological tissues, although material selection must account for mechanical compatibility, electrical safety, and biocompatibility.
