Blood Removal

Blood removal is the deliberate withdrawal of blood from an organism, a biological intervention used to alter circulation or obtain blood for analysis. It typically works by accessing a vessel and allowing blood to leave through a needle, catheter, or controlled incision, thereby reducing circulating volume and removing plasma, red cells, or other components. In biology and medicine, blood removal supports diagnostic testing, blood donation, therapeutic phlebotomy, and experimental studies of hematology and circulation. Its effects depend on the amount removed, the rate of withdrawal, and the organism’s ability to restore fluid balance and blood-cell populations.

Source: Dr. Melanie Pribisko Yen and Grace Tang — California Institute of Technology Rotary evaporation is a technique most commonly used in organic chemistry to remove a solvent from a higher-boiling point compound of interest. The rotary evaporator, or "rotovap", was invented in 1950 by the chemist Lyman C. Craig. The primary use of a rotovap is to dry and purify samples for downstream applications. Its speed and ability to handle large volumes of solvent make rotary evaporation a preferred...

Each method of collection has variations in the type of restraint required, the invasiveness of the procedure, and the necessity of a general anesthetic.1Historically, the use of the retro-orbital sinus cavity has been used, but not without debate. The controversy related to the potential tissue...
