Lower Critical Solution Time Correlation Function

The lower critical solution time correlation function is a time-dependent statistical description of fluctuations in a mixture near its lower critical solution temperature (LCST), the point above which a previously uniform solution separates into phases. It evaluates how concentration, density, or scattered-light intensity fluctuations remain correlated as molecular motions and polymer interactions change with temperature, often revealing characteristic relaxation times during aggregation. In polymer and colloid chemistry, this analysis helps identify phase-separation onset, characterize molecular dynamics, and distinguish reversible interactions from persistent aggregation. The resulting measurements support the design and evaluation of thermoresponsive materials, formulations, and solution-based processes.

Drug Concentration Versus Time Correlation

2024

The plasma drug concentration-time curve is a crucial tool in pharmacokinetics, representing the drug's concentration in plasma at different time intervals post-administration. This curve illustrates the drug's journey from absorption into the systemic circulation, distribution to body tissues, and eventual elimination through excretion or biotransformation. Two pivotal parameters are the minimum effective concentration (MEC) and the minimum toxic concentration (MTC). The MEC is the lowest drug...

Correlations

2020

Correlation means that there is a relationship between two or more variables (such as ice cream consumption and crime), but this relationship does not necessarily imply cause and effect. When two variables are correlated, it simply means that as one variable changes, so does the other. We can measure correlation by calculating a statistic known as a correlation coefficient. A correlation coefficient is a number from -1 to +1 that indicates the strength and direction of the relationship between...

Composition of Polyprotic Acid Solutions as a Function of pH

Polyprotic acids of the type H2M constitute two ionizable protons. As a result, on titration with a base, they exhibit two equivalence points in the titration curve. During titration, the species H2M, HM−, and M2− will be present in the solution at different points. The fractions of H2M, HM−, and M2− present at the various instances of the titration are denoted by α0, α1, and α2, respectively. A graph with the alpha values is plotted against the volume of base added during titration. Here, a...

Source: Laboratories of Jonas T. Kaplan and Sarah I. Gimbel—University of Southern California The autonomic nervous system (ANS) controls the activity of the body's internal organs and regulates changes in their activity depending on the current environment. The vagus nerve, which innervates many of the internal organs, is an important part of the system. When our brain senses danger, vagal tone is inhibited, leading to a set of changes in the body designed to make us more prepared to fight or...

A method is described whereby quantum dot (QD) nanoparticles can be used for correlative immunocytochemical studies of epoxy embedded human pathology tissue. We employ commercial antibody fragment conjugated QDs that are visualized by widefield fluorescence light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy.
