Organic Acid Quantification

Organic acid quantification is the measurement of the concentration or amount of organic acids in a sample, an essential task in analytical chemistry, quality control, and research. In acid-base titration, a standardized base reacts with acidic functional groups until an indicator or electrode detects the equivalence point, allowing concentration to be calculated from the titrant volume and reaction stoichiometry; chromatographic methods can separate and measure individual acids when mixtures are complex. These approaches support analysis of food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, biological samples, and environmental materials, helping researchers assess composition, monitor chemical processes, and evaluate product consistency.

Lactic acid, an important organic acid extensively applied in food, pharmaceutical, and biodegradable polymer industries, is primarily produced via microbial fermentation. This method is favored over chemical synthesis due to its environmental sustainability and capacity for enantiomerically pure product formation. Among various microbial processes, the fermentation of starch-based substrates stands out due to the abundance and renewability of raw materials like corn and potatoes.Hydrolysis of...
