Extended Release Medications

Extended release medications are drug formulations designed to release their active ingredients gradually over an extended period, helping maintain therapeutic effects with fewer doses. They use controlled-release mechanisms, such as specialized matrices, coatings, or delivery systems, to regulate how quickly the drug dissolves and becomes available for absorption in the body. In clinical practice, these formulations can improve dosing convenience, support more consistent drug concentrations, and reduce fluctuations associated with immediate-release products. Their performance depends on the drug, formulation design, and patient-specific factors, making appropriate selection and administration important for treatment effectiveness and safety.

Here, we describe a protocol for the application of a novel, slow-release ClO2 product that reduces spoilage and extends the shelf life of fresh fruit. The slow-release ClO2 product was added to standard commercial grape tomato packaging and tested against Escherichia coli and Alternaria alternata.

Extended 78% Hepatectomy in a Mouse Surgical Model

2024

The mouse model of partial 2/3 (66%) hepatectomy is well described in the literature, but more extended hepatectomies mimicking small-for-size syndrome after liver transplantation have seldom been used. We describe an extended 78% hepatectomy procedure in a mouse model that results in approximately 50% postoperative lethality in healthy mice.

Extended Versions of Green’s Theorem

2026

Green’s Theorem connects the circulation of a vector field around a closed curve with the behavior of the field across the region enclosed by that curve. It provides a way to replace a line integral around a boundary with a double integral over the interior region, making it especially useful in plane geometry, fluid flow, and vector calculus.Although Green’s Theorem is often introduced using simple regions without gaps, it can also be applied to regions made from several simple parts. Inhaled Medications

Inhaled medications are crucial for managing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. They are essential for effective treatment and control, ensuring optimal respiratory health and well-being. Inhaled medication delivers drugs directly to the lungs, providing a rapid onset of action and reducing systemic side effects compared to oral or injectable medications. Three primary types of inhalation devices are used to administer these medications: nebulizers, metered-dose inhalers...
