Hipaa Privacy

HIPAA Privacy refers to the federal standards that protect patients’ protected health information (PHI) while permitting appropriate clinical care, payment, and health care operations. The HIPAA Privacy Rule requires covered entities and business associates to limit PHI uses and disclosures to authorized purposes, apply the minimum necessary standard when appropriate, and implement safeguards for electronic, written, and verbal information. It also gives patients rights to access and request corrections to their records and learn about certain disclosures. In clinical settings, these requirements guide documentation, information sharing, research practices, and organizational policies, helping maintain confidentiality, support patient trust, and reduce privacy risks.
