Ventricular Resection Comparison

Ventricular resection comparison is the systematic evaluation of methods that remove a defined portion of ventricular tissue to assess how structure and function change after injury. In developmental biology, researchers compare the location, depth, and extent of resection while controlling experimental conditions, then monitor tissue closure, cell proliferation, remodeling, and recovery of ventricular performance. This approach helps distinguish injury responses from normal growth and reveals how developmental stage influences cardiac repair. Comparing resection strategies also improves reproducibility across studies and supports investigations of myocardial regeneration, congenital heart development, and the cellular mechanisms that restore damaged cardiac tissue.

(2022)This video demonstrates the use of a minimally invasive resection system (MIRS) to excise tumor tissue from an anesthetized mouse implanted with a tumor. The procedure involves securing the mouse onto a stereotactic frame, reopening the previous surgical site to access the brain, and inserting a specialized cannula that utilizes suction and a...

Source: Rennert, R. C., et al. Comprehensive Endovascular and Open Surgical Management of Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformations. J. Vis. Exp. (2017).This video demonstrates the open surgical resection of a cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in a human brain. The procedure involves creating a bone flap, accessing the subarachnoid space, identifying and occluding feeding arteries and draining veins, and carefully removing the AVM. Intraoperative angiography confirms complete resection,...
