Microfluidic Applications

Microfluidic applications use networks of microscale channels to manipulate small fluid volumes, enabling precise control of transport, reactions, and analysis in compact systems. Because flow is typically laminar at these dimensions, engineers can guide fluids through pressure-driven, capillary, or electrically controlled pathways and regulate mixing, separation, and reaction conditions. These systems support rapid chemical analysis, biological assays, point-of-care diagnostics, and microscale synthesis while reducing sample and reagent consumption. Their integration with sensors, pumps, and automated control platforms advances lab-on-a-chip devices and enables portable, high-throughput tools for research, healthcare, and industrial process development.
