Regional Heterogeneity

Regional heterogeneity is the spatial variation in environmental conditions, organisms, and ecological processes across a landscape or geographic region. It arises when factors such as climate, soil composition, topography, hydrology, land use, and disturbance vary among locations, creating distinct habitats and influencing how species and ecosystems function. Recognizing these patterns helps researchers interpret differences in biodiversity, productivity, pollution exposure, and ecosystem responses to environmental change. Regional heterogeneity also guides sampling design, conservation planning, habitat management, and climate-impact assessments by showing where local conditions may produce different ecological outcomes from broader regional trends.

Heterogeneous Catalysis

2026

Heterogeneous catalysis involves a catalyst in a different phase from the reactants. It is a process where the catalyst and the reactants are in distinct phases, typically solid and gas or liquid. Most heterogeneous catalysts are metals, metal oxides, or acids. The list includes transition metals like iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), palladium (Pd), platinum (Pt), chromium (Cr), manganese (Mn), tungsten (W), silver (Ag), and copper (Cu). These metals possess partially vacant d orbitals that...

HKUST-1 as a Heterogeneous Catalyst for the Synthesis of Vanillin

2016

The conversion of trans-ferulic acid to vanillin was achieved by heterogeneous catalysis. HKUST-1 was employed in this synthesis and the essential step in the catalytic process was the generation of unsaturated metal sites. Thus, when the catalyst was activated under vacuum, full vanillin conversion (yield of 95%) was obtained.

Single-Cell Western Blotting to Determine Cell Heterogeneity

2025

The video describes a single-cell western blotting technique that identifies the composition of individual cells captured on a single-cell western blotting chip in a heterogeneous suspension. The technique detects the fluorescence intensity of the fluorophore tagged to a protein marker specific to the target cell.

IR Frequency Region: Fingerprint Region

2024

IR spectra are divided into two main regions: the diagnostic region and the fingerprint region. The diagnostic region of the spectrum lies above 1500 cm−1. The absorptions resulting from single-bond vibrations of the N–H, C–H, and O–H stretch at higher wavenumbers and appear on the left side of the spectrum. The stretching absorptions of the C≡C and C≡N occur between 2100–2300 cm−1. In contrast, those arising from stretching absorptions of the C=O, C=N, and C=C occur between 1600–1850 cm−1. The...
