Bladder Biopsy Section

A bladder biopsy section is a prepared slice of bladder tissue obtained by biopsy and processed for microscopic examination, providing structural and cellular evidence of disease. After excision, the specimen is typically fixed to preserve morphology, embedded in a supporting medium, cut into thin sections, and stained so epithelial injury, inflammation, microorganisms, or other abnormalities can be visualized. In immunology and infection research, these sections help localize immune-cell infiltration, assess host–pathogen interactions, and compare tissue damage across experimental or clinical samples. They also support immunohistochemical analyses that identify selected cellular or microbial markers within the bladder wall.

Visualization of Bacteria in Bladder Biopsy Sections via Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization

2025

This video demonstrates the visualization of bacteria in deparaffinized bladder tissue from a urinary tract-infected patient. Fluorescently-labeled probe hybridized with bacterial 16s ribosomal RNAs reveals the tissue-associated bacteria and their distribution, providing valuable spatial insights into their density within the sample.

Bladder Tumor Organoid Model: A Method for Orthotopic Transplantation of Bladder Organoids into Recipient Murine Bladder

Approximately 3-8 million people in the United States suffer from interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS), a debilitating condition characterized in part by pelvic pain. In order to study nervous system contributions to the condition, a physiological model of urinary bladder pain is used in mice and rats.

Mouse bladder wall injection is a useful approach to orthotopically study bladder stem cell and cancer biology. This delicate microsurgical method can be mastered with careful technique and practice.

The Use of Cystometry in Small Rodents: A Study of Bladder Chemosensation

Cystometry is an efficient technique to measure bladder function of small animals in vivo. The bladder is continuously infused at rates controlled through an intravesical catheter, whereas the urethra is left free for micturition. This allows for repetitive filling and emptying of the bladder, while intravesical pressure and voided volume are recorded.
