Micro Slide

A micro slide is a small glass platform used to mount and examine specimens under a microscope, enabling detailed observation of cells, tissues, and microorganisms. A sample is placed on the slide, often secured beneath a coverslip, so transmitted or reflected light can form an enlarged image through the microscope’s optical system; staining may improve contrast between cellular structures or infectious agents. In immunology and infection research, micro slides support the examination of immune cells, tissue responses, and microbial morphology, helping researchers document structural changes and evaluate laboratory findings alongside other diagnostic or experimental methods.

Design Example: Designing Water Slide

2025

When designing a water slide, controlling the speed of water flow is crucial for rider safety while maintaining an exciting experience. As water flows down the slide, gravity causes it to accelerate, with its speed at the bottom depending on the height from which it starts. The higher the slide, the more potential energy the water has at the top, which is converted into kinetic energy as it descends, increasing its speed. Bernoulli's principle determines the water's velocity along the slide.

Micro-particle Image Velocimetry for Velocity Profile Measurements of Micro Blood Flows

Micro-particle image velocimetry (μPIV) is used to visualize paired images of micro particles seeded in blood flows which are cross-correlated to give an accurate velocity profile. Shear rate, maximum velocity, velocity profile shape, and flow rate, each of which has clinical applications, can be derived from these measurements.
