Viral Titer Quantification

Viral titer quantification is the measurement of the amount or infectious activity of virus in a sample, providing a basis for comparing viral preparations and evaluating infection. Depending on the assay, researchers estimate titer by counting plaques formed in susceptible cell cultures, detecting viral genomes with molecular methods, or measuring antigen and reporter signals under defined conditions. In immunology and infection research, these measurements support standardized inoculum preparation, assessment of viral replication, evaluation of neutralizing antibody responses, and testing of antiviral treatments. Accurate titers improve reproducibility and help link viral dose with cellular, tissue, or organism-level outcomes.

2026

The TCID50 assay reported here leverages label-free real-time impedance measurements and the system's Virology module to objectively monitor virus-induced cytopathic effects (CPE) in real time. This streamlined assay significantly reduces hands-on time while supporting high-throughput, quantitative kinetic CPE measurements and enabling automated, real-time TCID50 calculations.
