Constipation Treatment

Constipation treatment comprises dietary, behavioral, and pharmacological approaches that relieve infrequent, difficult, or incomplete bowel movements and address contributing causes. Initial management commonly increases dietary fiber and fluid intake, encourages regular physical activity, and establishes consistent toileting habits; when needed, laxatives alter stool consistency or intestinal movement. Bulk-forming agents add water-holding material, osmotic agents draw water into the bowel, and stimulant agents promote colonic contractions. In medicine, treatment is tailored to symptom severity, duration, underlying disorders, and medication effects, with persistent or complicated cases requiring clinical evaluation. Effective management can improve comfort, bowel function, and quality of life while reducing recurrence.

Osmotic laxatives like milk of magnesia are frequently used to soften stools and increase stool frequency in IBS-C patients. In addition, two drugs approved for use in severe IBS-C adult cases are linaclotide (Linzess) and lubiprostone...

Source: Roberto Leon, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA Hardness testing is one of the most universally valuable mechanical tests available to engineers, as it is both simple and relatively inexpensive for the wealth of information and data it produces. Hardness testing, generally in the form of a surface penetration test, is both quicker and less destructive than tensile testing. Hardness provides a linear relationship with tensile strength over a...
