Intraoperative Position Checks

Intraoperative position checks are systematic assessments of a patient’s body alignment and support during surgery, helping maintain safe access to the operative site while limiting positioning-related harm. Before and throughout a procedure, the surgical team verifies alignment, padding, pressure points, limb placement, and access to monitoring equipment, repeating the assessment after repositioning or major procedural changes. These checks support anesthesia and surgical safety by identifying compromised circulation, nerve compression, restricted ventilation, or loss of operative exposure before complications develop. Consistent documentation and communication also strengthen teamwork, standardize perioperative care, and improve outcomes across diverse surgical procedures.
