Muscle Grading Protocol

Muscle Grading Protocol is a standardized clinical method for evaluating voluntary muscle strength, helping clinicians identify weakness, track recovery, and guide rehabilitation. During testing, the examiner positions a patient to isolate a muscle or muscle group, observes whether a contraction occurs and whether the limb moves through its range against gravity, then applies resistance when appropriate to assign a grade on a commonly used 0-to-5 scale. In medicine, this assessment supports neurological and musculoskeletal examinations, documents functional change over time, and helps inform diagnosis, treatment planning, and decisions about further evaluation. Consistent positioning and clear instructions improve reliability across examinations.

2025

IDH1-mutant diffuse low-grade gliomas are rare tumors that are difficult to culture. We introduce a simple, non-enzymatic explant method that preserves IDH1-mutant protein expression and sustains cultures for months. Importantly, this technique works with cryopreserved tumors, offering a valuable resource for glioma research.

Graded Potential

2025

Graded potentials are localized fluctuations in the cell membrane's electrical charge, commonly found in the dendrites of neurons. The magnitude of these potential changes depends on the strength of the initiating stimulus. In a membrane at its resting potential, a graded potential signifies a voltage shift either above -70 mV or below -70 mV. Graded potentials fall into two categories: depolarizing and hyperpolarizing. Depolarizing graded potentials typically occur when sodium (Na+) or calcium...

Survivors of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and critical illness frequently develop long-lasting muscle weakness. Manual muscle testing (MMT) is a standardized clinical examination commonly used to measure strength of peripheral skeletal muscle groups. This video demonstrates MMT using the 6-point Medical Research Council scale.

Standardized Protocol For Monitoring Muscle Fatigue and Biomechanics In Amateur Cyclists Using Infrared Thermography

2026

Cycling biomechanics relies on efficient muscle activation and core stabilization. Infrared thermography (IRT) offers non-invasive monitoring of muscle fatigue. This protocol establishes a standardized methodology for integrating IRT into biomechanical analysis, aiming to optimize performance and prevent injury in amateur cyclists through precise physiological monitoring.
