Palliative Care Training

Palliative care training is structured education that prepares healthcare professionals to relieve suffering and support quality of life for people with serious illness, alongside disease-directed treatment when appropriate. It develops skills in comprehensive symptom assessment, pain and medication management, sensitive communication, advance care planning, and shared decision-making, often through interdisciplinary learning and case-based practice. This training helps clinicians address physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs while aligning care with each patient’s values and goals. In medicine, it strengthens coordination among patients, families, and care teams, supports ethical decision-making, and promotes timely, person-centered care across hospitals, clinics, and community settings.

All animal procedures described here must be conducted in accordance with institutional animal ethics guidelines and approved by IACUC. All procedures must follow the principles of the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—and must be performed by trained personnel. A Stepwise Approach to Training Proper training and competency in animal procedures are essential to ensure high standards of animal welfare and reliable scientific outcomes. A structured, progressive training approach is...

Respiratory muscle weakness is highly prevalent in patients weaning from mechanical ventilation. Resistive inspiratory muscle training (IMT) can improve inspiratory strength and potentially weaning outcomes. This protocol provides a structured approach to offer IMT to selected patients based on the best available knowledge, facilitating its wider application in critical care.
