Urethral Reconstruction

Urethral reconstruction is a group of surgical procedures that restores the structure and function of a damaged, narrowed, or absent urethra. Depending on the location and extent of disease, surgeons may remove scarred tissue and reconnect healthy urethral ends or widen the channel with a tissue graft or flap, while temporary catheterization supports healing. The approach is commonly used to treat urethral stricture disease, traumatic injury, and selected congenital or postoperative abnormalities. By reestablishing a continuous urinary passage, reconstruction can improve urine flow, reduce obstruction-related symptoms, and provide durable functional recovery.

In the present protocol, a urethral stricture induction was developed in Wistar rats, followed by urethral reconstruction with a buccal mucosa graft. A retrograde urethrogram and laser Doppler assessment were performed, validating urethral reconstruction (after stricture formation) and graft placement.

Nerve-sparing Mid-urethral Obstruction (NeMO) in Female Small Rodents

Traditional modeling of partial bladder outlet obstruction in rodents is fraught with animal mortality. A denervation injury from dissection around the proximal urethra and bladder neck is also of major concern. We developed and evaluated a safe and reliable mid-urethral obstruction model, avoiding the shortcomings of the traditional model.

Designing CAD/CAM Surgical Guides for Maxillary Reconstruction Using an In-house Approach

Coronoid-Temporalis Pedicled Flap for Orbital Floor Defect Reconstruction

2025

This protocol presents a novel coronoid-temporalis pedicled flap (CTPF) technique for reconstructing small-to-medium orbital floor defects. CTPF avoids microvascular risks while maintaining biomechanical stability. Clinical cases demonstrate effective structural restoration, reduced complications, and preserved facial symmetry, offering a viable alternative to traditional grafts or alloplastic materials.
