Piezoelectric Conduit

A piezoelectric conduit is a tubular device made from a material that generates electrical charge when mechanically deformed, combining physical guidance with electrical signaling. In neuroscience, the conduit can surround or bridge a damaged nerve, where movement, compression, or other mechanical forces deform the piezoelectric material and produce localized electrical cues; its architecture also provides a protected pathway for axonal growth. These conduits are being investigated for peripheral nerve repair, neural tissue engineering, and bioelectronic interfaces, where aligned regeneration and electrical stimulation may support functional recovery. Their performance depends on material composition, mechanical properties, electrical output, and compatibility with surrounding tissue.

One-step fabrication method for obtaining freestanding epitaxial double heterostructure is presented. This approach could achieve ZnO coverage with a higher number density than that of the epitaxial single heterostructure, leading to a piezoelectric nanogenerator with an increased output electrical performance.
