Voluntary Activation Testing

Voluntary activation testing is a neurophysiological method for measuring how fully the nervous system drives a muscle during a voluntary contraction. The test applies a brief electrical stimulus to the motor nerve during a maximal voluntary contraction and compares the resulting superimposed twitch with a resting twitch; a smaller additional twitch indicates more complete neural activation. In neuroscience and human movement research, this approach distinguishes central limitations in motor drive from peripheral muscle or neuromuscular transmission deficits. It is used to study fatigue, motor control, neurological disorders, rehabilitation, and changes in corticospinal function after injury or training.

Task Interruption and Resumption Paradigm for Testing the Activation and Pursuit of an Abstract Thinking Goal

2017

This protocol was designed to test the activation and pursuit of cognitive goals (e.g., an abstract thinking goal) using the task interruption and resumption paradigm. The protocol is suitable for cognitive goals that are automatically pursued once activated, as the distraction procedure prevents goal pursuit during the interruption period.

Anxiety Testing

2023

Anxiety is a commonly observed behavioral disorder that stems from fear. It is described as increased restlessness, or unpleasant feelings of fear over anticipated events. Experimenters often use rodent models to better understand anxiety disorders in humans. They use different paradigms, like exposing rodents to bright spaces or loud sounds, which are known to induce fear. These tests combined with other interventions such as surgery or drug-administration may assist researchers in pinpointing...

High Throughput, Real-time, Dual-readout Testing of Intracellular Antimicrobial Activity and Eukaryotic Cell Cytotoxicity

A high throughput, real-time assay was developed to simultaneously identify (1) eukaryotic cell-penetrant antimicrobials targeting an intracellular bacterial pathogen, and (2) assess eukaryotic cell cytotoxicity. A variation on the same technology was thereafter combined with digital dispensing technology to enable facile, high-resolution, dose-response, and two- and three-dimensional synergy studies.
