Loss Aversion

Loss aversion is a psychological tendency in which people experience the pain of losing something as greater than the pleasure of gaining an equivalent amount, shaping decisions under uncertainty. In prospect theory, individuals evaluate outcomes relative to a reference point and assign greater subjective weight to losses than to gains, which can produce risk-averse choices when protecting existing resources and risk-seeking choices when trying to avoid a loss. Researchers use loss aversion to explain behavior in finance, consumer decisions, health communication, and negotiations. Understanding this bias helps clarify how framing, incentives, and perceived threats influence judgment and behavior.

The Concept of Loss Aversion

2026

Loss aversion is a fundamental principle in behavioral economics that describes the human tendency to weigh losses more heavily than equivalent gains. This cognitive bias can significantly influence decision-making, particularly in financial contexts, leading individuals to avoid losses at the expense of potential gains.Loss aversion is rooted in prospect theory, developed by Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky. According to their research, individuals experience the psychological impact of a loss...

Feeding behavior preferences in livestock can be modified to implement a grazing management plan in woody crops. Here, we present a protocol to show a lithium chloride dose after eating a new plant that induces conditioned taste aversion.

Line Loss

The different configurations of source-load connections include wye (star) and delta connections. The relationship between line and phase voltages and currents varies depending on the configuration. When the source is supplying power, it is transmitted through the wires to the load, and during this transmission, some power is absorbed by the wires, leading to line loss. Line loss impacts power delivery efficiency in a balanced three-phase circuit. The symmetry in such a circuit simplifies the...
