Post-formal Thought

Post-formal thought is a proposed stage or pattern of adult cognitive development that extends beyond formal logical reasoning by addressing ambiguity, contradiction, and changing real-world conditions. Rather than applying universal rules alone, it integrates abstract analysis with practical experience, recognizes that knowledge can depend on context, and uses dialectical reasoning to reconcile opposing perspectives. In psychology, this concept helps explain how adults approach complex decisions, moral dilemmas, relationships, and professional problems with greater flexibility and tolerance for uncertainty. Studying post-formal thought informs theories of lifespan development and supports research on education, expertise, judgment, and adaptive reasoning.

Formal Charges

In some cases, there are seemingly more than one valid Lewis structures for molecules and polyatomic ions. The concept of formal charges can be used to help predict the most appropriate Lewis structure when more than one reasonable structure exists. Calculating Formal Charge The formal charge of an atom in a molecule is the hypothetical charge the atom would have if the electrons in the bonds are evenly distributed between the atoms. Alternatively, formal charge results when from the number...

Lewis symbols can be used to indicate the formation of covalent bonds, which are shown in Lewis structures—drawings that describe the bonding in molecules and polyatomic ions. The periodic table can be used to predict the number of valence electrons in an atom and the number of bonds that will be formed to reach an octet. Group 18 elements, such as argon and helium, have filled electron configurations and thus rarely participate in chemical bonding. However, atoms from group 17, such as bromine...

2014

Accurate, causality-based quantification of global diastolic function has been achieved by kinematic modeling-based analysis of transmitral flow via the Parametrized Diastolic Filling (PDF) formalism. PDF generates unique stiffness, relaxation, and load parameters and elucidates 'new' physiology while providing sensitive and specific indexes of dysfunction.

Accurate financial reporting relies on more than just recording transactions; it requires systematically updating and organizing data across various accounting records. One critical step in this process is posting to the ledger, which bridges daily transaction entries with meaningful financial summaries.Posting involves transferring each journal entry to the appropriate ledger accounts, ensuring all changes in financial position are categorized by type—assets, liabilities, equity, income, or...

2022

The present protocol uses a biomolecular simulation package and describes the molecular dynamics (MD) approach for modeling the wild-type caspase and its mutant forms. The MD method allows for assessing the dynamic evolution of the caspase structure and the potential effect of mutations or post-translational modifications.
