Trauma Response

Trauma response is the set of psychological and physiological reactions that can follow exposure to an overwhelming, threatening, or distressing event. It involves coordinated activation of the sympathetic nervous system and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, which can produce fight, flight, freeze, or shutdown responses while influencing attention, memory, emotion, and behavior. In psychology, understanding trauma response supports assessment of acute stress and post-traumatic stress symptoms, including avoidance, intrusive memories, and heightened arousal. This framework informs trauma-focused interventions, promotes safer clinical communication, and helps researchers examine recovery, coping, resilience, and factors that shape long-term outcomes.

Pseudofracture, a reproducible murine model of sterile musculoskeletal trauma, allows for evaluation of late term post-traumatic immune responses. This article describes the procedural execution of the model step by step, including the potential for experimental model combinations to permit study of multiple trauma.

Acute Brain Trauma in Mice Followed By Longitudinal Two-photon Imaging

Acute brain trauma is a severe injury that has no adequate treatment to date. Multiphoton microscopy allows studying longitudinally the process of acute brain trauma development and probing therapeutical strategies in rodents. Two models of acute brain trauma studied with in vivo two-photon imaging of brain are demonstrated in this protocol.
