Protein Processing Analysis

Protein processing analysis is the study of how newly synthesized proteins are cleaved, modified, folded, and assembled into functional forms, providing insight into protein maturation and regulation. It combines sample preparation with separation and detection methods such as SDS-PAGE, immunoblotting, and mass spectrometry to compare molecular mass, processing fragments, abundance, and post-translational modifications; enzymatic cleavage or modification can shift migration or generate identifiable peptide signatures. In biological techniques, these measurements help verify recombinant protein expression, characterize proteolytic activation, identify disease-associated processing changes, and assess how experimental conditions affect protein function.
