Essential Oil Extraction

Essential oil extraction is the separation of volatile, aromatic compounds from plant materials such as flowers, leaves, peels, and seeds, producing concentrated mixtures used in chemistry, perfumery, food, and natural-product research. In steam distillation or hydrodistillation, heat and water vapor release these compounds from plant tissues, and the vapors condense into an oil-rich fraction that separates from the aqueous distillate; solvent extraction and cold pressing use different chemical and physical principles. The selected method influences composition, yield, purity, and stability. Analyzing the resulting oils helps identify terpenes and other constituents while supporting quality control, formulation, and investigation of bioactive plant compounds.

Microorganisms such as Escherichia coli that contaminate meat products cause foodborne illnesses. The use of essential oils in the meat drying process has not been deeply studied. Here, we present a novel method of applying thyme essential oil to meat during drying to reduce the microbial load in dried meat.

2023

The human body is composed of cells that are fundamentally made up of several different molecules. These molecules are essential to carry out all physiological processes in the body and are broadly classified into organic and inorganic based on their chemical structures. Inorganic Compounds Essential to Human Functioning Inorganic compounds essential to human functioning include water, salts, acids, and bases. These compounds are inorganic, i.e., they do not have a carbon-hydrogen bond. Water...
