Disposable Thermometer

Disposable thermometers are single-use clinical devices that measure body temperature while reducing the risk of cross-contamination between patients. They work through a sealed temperature-sensitive element, such as a thermochromic strip that changes color at calibrated temperatures or an electronic sensor that converts heat into a readable signal. Clinicians use these devices for rapid screening, routine vital-sign assessment, and settings where cleaning reusable thermometers is impractical. Their low cost, portability, and simplified handling support infection-control procedures, although readings must be interpreted according to the device’s measurement site, calibration, and clinical limitations.

2023

Robert M. Rioux and Taslima A. Zaman, Pennsylvania State University, Pennsylvania, PA Users are responsible for the proper disposal of the waste generated during their work. Improper waste disposal may severely endanger public health and/or the environment. The handling of hazardous waste must be regulated from the moment of generation until its disposal at its offsite final destination facility. A waste management system must be devised before work begins on any laboratory activity. Users...

Thermometers and Temperature Scales

2023

Any physical property that depends consistently and reproducibly on temperature can be used as the basis of a thermometer. For example, volume increases with temperature for most substances. This property is the basis for the common alcohol thermometer and the original mercury thermometers. Other properties used to measure temperature include electrical resistance, color, and the emission of infrared radiation. As many physical properties depend on temperature, the variety of thermometers is...

Disposing of accounts receivable refers to the process of removing unpaid invoices from a company’s books, either by selling them or writing them off. This is a critical part of managing working capital and ensuring accurate financial reporting. One common approach is factoring, where a company sells its receivables to a third party at a discount. The buyer, known as a factor, provides immediate cash but keeps a portion of the receivable as a fee. While this results in a financial loss, it...
