Patient Consent

Patient consent is the process through which individuals make informed, voluntary decisions about clinical examination, treatment, research participation, or data use. It requires clinicians or researchers to explain the purpose, procedures, potential benefits, foreseeable risks, alternatives, and the right to ask questions or withdraw, while confirming the person’s understanding and decision-making capacity without coercion. Consent may be documented in writing or another approved format and should remain an ongoing process as circumstances change. In clinical practice and research, effective consent protects patient autonomy, supports ethical and legally appropriate decision-making, and strengthens trust between participants and healthcare professionals.

This study outlined an easily administered screening test to identify HIV patients with frailty. When significant components of frailty are identified, clinicians will be able to focus on amelioration of the problem and promote reversion to the pre-frail state.
