Electrical Mechanical Conversion

Electrical-mechanical conversion is the transfer of energy between electrical and mechanical forms, a foundational principle in engineering systems that produce motion or electricity. In motors, current flowing through conductors in a magnetic field generates electromagnetic force and torque; in generators, mechanical motion changes magnetic flux and induces voltage according to Faraday’s law. This bidirectional process supports actuators, industrial machinery, electric vehicles, robotics, and renewable-energy systems. Understanding conversion efficiency, torque, speed, losses, and control enables engineers to design reliable electromechanical devices and improve energy use across transportation, manufacturing, and power generation.

Other than maintaining genome stability via DNA repair, homologous recombination plays an important role in diversifying the genome. In fact, the recombination of sequences forms the molecular basis of genomic evolution. Random and non-random permutations of genomic sequences create a library of new amalgamated sequences. These newly formed genomes can determine the fitness and survival of cells. In bacteria, homologous and non-homologous types of recombination lead to the evolution of new...

Source: Yong P. Chen, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, College of Science, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN An electric field is generated by a charged object (referred to as the source charge) in the space around it, and represents the ability to exert electric force on another charged object (referred to as the test charge). Represented by a vector at any given point in the space, the electric field is the electrical force per unit test charge placed at that point (the force...

Here we present a protocol for training a cell population using electrical and mechanical stimuli emulating cardiac physiology. This electromechanical stimulation enhances the cardiomyogenic potential of the treated cells and is a promising strategy for further cell therapy, disease modeling, and drug screening.

Conversion of Units

Sometimes, there is a need to convert from one unit to another one. For instance, reading a cookbook in which quantities are expressed in units of liters or ounces may require conversion of quantities to cups. Or, when looking up directions on how to get to a location, we may be interested to know how many miles we are going to walk. In this case, we would have to convert units of feet or meters to miles. The first step in the unit conversion is to list the given units and the units required...
