Residence Time Distribution

Residence Time Distribution (RTD) describes how long individual fluid elements remain inside a process vessel or reactor, providing a quantitative measure of flow behavior and mixing. Engineers determine RTD by introducing a tracer as a pulse or step change and measuring its concentration at the outlet over time; the resulting E(t) curve reveals the mean residence time, spread, and deviations from ideal plug flow or complete mixing. RTD analysis helps identify channeling, bypassing, stagnant regions, and inadequate mixing in chemical, environmental, and biochemical processing systems. These insights support reactor design, scale-up, performance evaluation, and optimization of conversion and product quality.

Noncompartmental Analysis: Mean Residence Time

2025

According to statistical moment theory, mean residence time (MRT) is an important measure in pharmacokinetics. MRT can be defined as the expected mean of a probability density function distribution. It provides valuable insights into drug disposition in the body. After the administration of a drug through intravenous bolus injection, the drug molecules are distributed throughout the body and remain there for varying periods. The MRT represents the average time these drug molecules stay in the...

This video shows the resident-intruder paradigm in rats. This test is a standardized method to measure offensive aggression, defensive behavior and violence in a semi-natural setting. The use of the paradigm for social stress experiments is explained as well.

Frequency and Distribution of Crossovers in Caenorhabditis elegans Meiosis by SNP Genotyping using Real-time PCR

2025

This protocol provides a method for measuring crossover frequencies and distribution during meiosis in Caenorhabditis elegans. Single-nucleotide polymorphism genotyping with real-time PCR was used to determine the origin of the chromosomes. The 4-point mapping allowed to determine the crossover distributions of the left-arm, center, and right-arm regions of each chromosome. ...

In Vitro Resident Memory CD8 T Cell Differentiation Using Epithelial Organoid-T Cell Co-culture System

2026

To study CD8 T cell differentiation and function in vitro, CD8 T cells can be isolated from the mouse to be co-cultured long-term with preformed infected murine vaginal epithelial organoids. Here, we describe this process and assess the acquisition of resident memory T cell markers upon co-culture.
