Eruption Types

Eruption types classify volcanic activity according to how magma, gases, and fragmented rock reach Earth’s surface, helping scientists assess hazards and environmental effects. Their behavior depends chiefly on magma viscosity, temperature, composition, and dissolved gas content: low-viscosity magma can produce relatively gentle effusive lava flows, whereas viscous, gas-rich magma may fragment explosively into ash, pumice, and pyroclastic flows. Hawaiian, Strombolian, Vulcanian, and Plinian eruptions represent progressively different patterns of explosivity, while phreatic eruptions result from steam-driven expansion of heated groundwater. Understanding these types supports volcano monitoring, hazard mapping, emergency planning, and analysis of atmospheric, ecological, and landscape change.

Types of RNA

2019

Overview Three main types of RNA are involved in protein synthesis: messenger RNA (mRNA), transfer RNA (tRNA), and ribosomal RNA (rRNA). These RNAs perform diverse functions and can be broadly classified as protein-coding or non-coding RNA. Non-coding RNAs play important roles in the regulation of gene expression in response to developmental and environmental changes. Non-coding RNAs in prokaryotes can be manipulated to develop more effective antibacterial drugs for human or animal use. RNA...

Types of Hormones

Hormones can be classified into three main types based on their chemical structures: steroids, peptides, and amines. Their actions are mediated by the specific receptors they bind to on target cells. Steroid hormones are derived from cholesterol and are lipophilic in nature. This allows them to readily traverse the lipid-rich cell membrane to bind to their intracellular receptors in the cytoplasm or nucleus. Once bound, the cytoplasmic hormone-receptor complex translocates to the nucleus.

Chemical bonding theories were pioneered by American chemist Gilbert N. Lewis. He developed a model called the Lewis model to explain the type and formation of different bonds. Chemical bonding is central to chemistry; it explains how atoms or ions bond together to form molecules. It explains why some bonds are strong and others are weak, or why one carbon bonds with two oxygens and not three; why water is H2O and not H4O. Ionic Bonds Ions are atoms or molecules bearing an electrical charge.

Types of Risk

Risk in finance is the potential to lose money or face unexpected outcomes in investment and economic activities. It is broadly categorized into systematic and unsystematic risks. Systematic Risks: Systematic risks, also known as market risks, affect the entire market or economy. These risks are inherent to the financial system and cannot be eliminated through diversification. Examples of systematic risks include significant economic declines, global events like pandemics, changes in interest...
