2d Vhit Testing

2D vHIT testing, or two-dimensional video head impulse testing, is a noninvasive method for assessing the vestibulo-ocular reflex and detecting dysfunction in the semicircular canals. During brief, unpredictable head impulses, a video camera tracks eye movements while the system compares eye and head velocities; reduced vestibulo-ocular reflex gain or corrective saccades can indicate impaired vestibular function. Clinicians use the test to evaluate dizziness, vertigo, and suspected peripheral vestibular disorders, often alongside other balance assessments. Because it provides rapid, objective information about canal function, 2D vHIT supports diagnosis, treatment planning, and monitoring of vestibular disease.

A plane traveling due north at 180 km/h in still air was found to be 80 km off-course after 30 minutes, deviating approximately 5 degrees east of north. This deviation means the influence of a crosswind alters the plane’s intended trajectory. The actual ground path formed a diagonal, suggesting that the aircraft’s effective ground speed was reduced to 160 km/h and directed slightly to the east due to the wind.By analyzing the displacement from the intended path, the velocity contributed by the...

2D Co-culture of Leukemic Cells with BMSCs: A Method to Obtain Subpopulations of Leukemic Cells

2023

This video describes the technique for long term 2D co-culture of leukemia cells with bone marrow stromal cells to study their interaction with the bone marrow microenvironment. The 2D coculture model utilizes the acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells and the bone marrow stromal or osteoblasts that influence tumor cell phenotype. This study will support investigation of the mechanisms that underlie bone marrow supported survival of leukemic cells during chemotherapy exposure.

A common protein extraction protocol using urea/thiourea/SDS buffer for human and mice brain tissue allows indentification of proteins by 2D-DIGE and their subsequent characterization by mini 2DE immunoblotting. This method enables one to obtain more reproducible and reliable results from human biopsies and experimental models.

Anxiety Testing

Anxiety is a commonly observed behavioral disorder that stems from fear. It is described as increased restlessness, or unpleasant feelings of fear over anticipated events. Experimenters often use rodent models to better understand anxiety disorders in humans. They use different paradigms, like exposing rodents to bright spaces or loud sounds, which are known to induce fear. These tests combined with other interventions such as surgery or drug-administration may assist researchers in pinpointing...

Source: Roberto Leon, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA Wood is a ubiquitous material that has been used in construction from the earliest times. Wood is a renewable, sustainable material with great aesthetic value. Today, there are probably more buildings constructed with wood than any other structural material. Many of these buildings are singlefamily residences, but many larger apartment buildings, as well as commercial and industrial buildings,...
