Laparoscopic Stapler

A laparoscopic stapler is a minimally invasive surgical instrument that simultaneously divides tissue and places rows of staples to seal or join structures through small abdominal incisions. Introduced through a trocar, it aligns tissue between its jaws, compresses it, and deploys staples as a blade cuts between the staple lines, helping control bleeding and limit leakage. Surgeons use laparoscopic staplers in procedures such as bowel resection, bariatric surgery, and lung or stomach operations to transect tissue and create anastomoses. Their standardized closure and reduced need for intracorporeal suturing can improve operative efficiency, although correct tissue selection, positioning, and staple-line assessment remain essential for patient safety.

In early gastric cancer, the aim of surgery is to precisely remove the distal stomach including the primary tumor. To do this, accurate localization of the tumor is crucial, especially in totally laparoscopic surgery. This protocol describes a procedure for intraoperative gastroscopy in totally laparoscopic subtotal gastrectomy.
