Pectoral Fascia

Pectoral fascia is a layer of connective tissue in the anterior chest wall that encloses the pectoralis major and helps organize movement between the skin, muscles, and deeper structures. It attaches to surrounding regions, including the clavicle and sternum, continues with the axillary fascia, and connects with deeper fascial layers around the pectoralis minor, supporting tissue continuity and force transmission. In medicine, understanding the pectoral fascia helps guide physical examination, interpretation of chest-wall anatomy, regional anesthesia, surgical planning, and evaluation of fascial restriction or injury. Its anatomical relationships are especially important in breast and reconstructive surgery.

This protocol presents a step-by-step instruction for harvesting the superficial inferior epigastric artery fascia (SIEF) flap and wrapping it around the reconstructed peroneal nerve defect in rabbits. This surgical addition of vascularization to the tissue bed of nerve grafts is used to improve regeneration outcomes.

This protocol describes a surgical set-up for a permanent epicranial electrode socket and an implanted chest electrode in rodents. By placing a second electrode into the socket, different types of transcranial electrical brain stimulation can be delivered to the motor system in alert animals through the intact skull.

Use of zebrafish for cardiovascular research is expanding towards research on adult hearts. For these applications, quick and simple isolation of cardiac tissues is key to avoid post-mortem changes and to obtain an adequate number of samples. Here, we describe a fast and reproducible method for dissecting adult zebrafish hearts.
