Postoperative Pancreatic Fistula

Postoperative pancreatic fistula is an abnormal connection that allows pancreatic fluid to leak after pancreatic or nearby abdominal surgery, making it a significant complication of postoperative care. It develops when disruption of the pancreatic duct or fragile anastomotic tissue permits enzyme-rich secretions to escape into surrounding spaces; a clinically relevant fistula is identified by persistent drain fluid with elevated amylase and associated clinical effects. Complications can include intra-abdominal collections, infection, hemorrhage, delayed recovery, and prolonged hospitalization. Understanding its mechanisms supports risk assessment, drain management, imaging, nutritional care, and timely interventions that improve outcomes after pancreatic surgery.

The goal is to produce an arteriovenous fistula that is simple and reproducible. This method does not use sutures or glue adhesive. Therefore the samples can be used with the least amount of foreign materials for analysis.

Murine Model of Islet Transplantation: A Surgical Method to Infuse Pancreatic Islets in Portal Vein and Prevention of Postoperative Bleeding

Here we present a murine model of arteriovenous fistula (AVF) failure in which a clinically relevant anastomotic configuration is incorporated. This model can be used to study the pathophysiology and to test possible therapeutic interventions.

Robotic-assisted Lateral Pancreaticojejunostomy for Chronic Pancreatitis

This protocol presents a method for performing a parenchymal sparing robotic-assisted lateral pancreaticojejunostomy intended for appropriately selected patients with a pancreatic duct obstruction without significant inflammation of the pancreatic head. This article demonstrates critical aspects of the operation in a minimally invasive, robotic fashion to treat recurrent acute/chronic pancreatitis.

After puncturing the aorta through the inferior vena cava (IVC) to create an aorto-caval fistula in the mouse, solution containing a drug is infused into the IVC via the same needle, followed by incubation. This method enables more robust drug delivery to the venous endothelium compared to the external route.
