Refractory Bnc

Refractory bladder neck contracture (BNC) is a persistent or recurrent narrowing of the bladder outlet that remains difficult to treat, causing obstructed urinary flow and affecting lower urinary tract function. It develops when scar tissue contracts at the bladder neck, often after procedures or injury involving the prostate or urinary tract, and may recur after dilation or endoscopic incision. Clinical management centers on confirming the obstruction, assessing recurrence and continence, and selecting endoscopic or reconstructive treatment. Studying refractory BNC helps clinicians tailor care, counsel patients, and evaluate strategies that restore durable bladder emptying.

Treating chronic or neuropathic facial pain can be challenging when medical or standard treatment fails. Subcutaneous nerve field stimulation is the least invasive form of neuromodulation and is used for chronic back pain. We applied this technology to treat chronic and neuropathic trigeminal facial pain.

MRI-guided Focused Ultrasound Thalamotomy for Patients with Medically-refractory Essential Tremor

High-intensity MRI guided focused ultrasound is an emerging noninvasive technique to precisely ablate brain tissue. It has been shown to be safe and effective in treating medically-refractory essential tremor. This article describes the protocol for thalamotomy from patient selection to equipment setup to post-treatment follow-up.

Stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG) aids in localization of epileptogenic zones, however, remains relatively underutilized in the United States. The goal of this abstract is to provide a brief introduction to the technique of SEEG and further a detailed technique of using robotic assistance in the placement of SEEG electrodes.

Preparation of Bacterial Nanocellulose Pellicles from Cellulose-Producing Bacteria

Source: Arias, S. L., et al. Fabrication of a Functionalized Magnetic Bacterial Nanocellulose with Iron Oxide Nanoparticles. J. Vis. Exp. (2016).This video demonstrates the production of nanocellulose by culturing cellulose-producing bacteria in a nutrient medium containing mannitol. The bacteria metabolize mannitol into glucose, which is then polymerized and extruded as glucan chains that crystallize into cellulose sheets, forming a three-dimensional matrix at the air–liquid interface. The...
