Rna Virus Sequencing

RNA virus sequencing is a molecular method used to determine the genetic sequence of RNA viruses, supporting diagnosis, surveillance, and research in medicine. Because sequencing platforms generally read DNA, viral RNA is first converted into complementary DNA by reverse transcription, then amplified or prepared as a sequencing library before generated reads are aligned to reference genomes or assembled de novo. The resulting sequences can identify viral species and mutations, distinguish related strains, and reveal transmission patterns. These data help monitor outbreaks, track emerging variants, assess diagnostic targets, and inform treatment, vaccine development, and public health responses.

RNA viruses are categorized into positive-strand, negative-strand, or double-stranded groups based on their genomic structure and replication mechanisms. This classification dictates how they exploit host cellular machinery for protein synthesis and replication. Some RNA viruses also utilize reverse transcription as part of their life cycle, further diversifying their replication strategies.Positive-Strand RNA VirusesPositive-strand RNA viruses have genomes that function directly as messenger...
