Three Dimensional Characterization

Three-dimensional characterization is the systematic measurement and description of an object’s spatial structure, shape, and internal features, providing a more complete view than two-dimensional observation alone. In medicine, it typically combines volumetric imaging with image reconstruction, segmentation, and quantitative analysis to represent anatomical structures or pathological changes in three dimensions. These approaches can assess tissue morphology, tumor volume, vascular networks, and relationships between neighboring structures. By converting complex anatomy into measurable data, three-dimensional characterization supports diagnosis, treatment planning, surgical guidance, disease monitoring, and the development of patient-specific models for biomedical research.

Mice are widely used to study gestational biology. However, pregnancy termination is required for such studies which precludes longitudinal investigations and necessitates the use of large numbers of animals. Therefore, we describe a non-invasive technique of high-frequency ultrasonography for early detection and monitoring of post-implantation events in the pregnant mouse.
