Cellular Transplantation

Cellular transplantation is a therapeutic and research approach that introduces living cells into damaged or diseased tissue to replace lost cells, restore function, or modify the local environment. In neuroscience, transplanted cells may survive within the host tissue, differentiate into specialized neural or glial cells, form connections with existing circuits, and release signaling molecules that support repair and reduce inflammation. Researchers use this strategy to study neural development and disease while investigating treatments for conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injury, and stroke. Its success depends on cell source, delivery site, immune compatibility, integration, and long-term function.
