Neurosurgical Technique

Neurosurgical technique refers to the operative methods used to diagnose and treat disorders of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nervous system while minimizing injury to healthy neural tissue. These approaches combine anatomical knowledge with tools such as microscopy, stereotactic navigation, intraoperative imaging, and specialized instruments to guide precise access, tissue manipulation, and repair. In neuroscience, neurosurgical techniques support tumor removal, vascular repair, epilepsy treatment, spinal procedures, biopsy, and implantation of devices for neuromodulation. Their continued refinement improves surgical accuracy, patient safety, functional preservation, and opportunities to investigate human nervous system structure and function.

Measurement Accuracy The ability to repeat an experiment and get the same results, or reproducibility, is essential in scientific research. However, it’s impossible to repeat an experiment if you don’t know how you did it. Thus, scientists keep detailed records of their experiments in lab notebooks. These records include important information like the amount of each material used and descriptions of each step of the procedure. Equipment, like balances and volumetric or graduated glassware, is...

Please adjust quantities as needed. To set up for this lab experiment, wear the appropriate personal protective equipment, including a lab coat, chemical splash goggles, and gloves. Obtain enough small plastic bottles with caps for the number of students and label them ‘NaCl’. Use a...

Zebrafish Microinjection Techniques

One of the major advantages to working with zebrafish (Danio rerio) is that their genetics can be easily manipulated by microinjection of early stage embryos. Using this technique, solutions containing genetic material or knockdown constructs are delivered into the blastomeres: the embryonic cells sitting atop the yolk of the newly fertilized egg. Delivery into the cytoplasm is achieved either through direct injection into the blastomere, or via natural cytoplasmic movements that occur after a...
