Posterior Auricular Vein

The posterior auricular vein is a superficial vein that drains blood from the scalp behind the ear and parts of the external ear, making it an important landmark in head and neck anatomy. It descends along the posterior auricular region and typically joins the posterior division of the retromandibular vein to form the external jugular vein, returning venous blood toward the subclavian vein. In neuroscience, understanding this pathway supports study of cranial and cervical vascular anatomy, interpretation of head and neck imaging, and recognition of venous landmarks during neurological and clinical examinations.

2025

Source: Badran, B. W., et al. Laboratory Administration of Transcutaneous Auricular Vagus Nerve Stimulation (taVNS): Technique, Targeting, and Considerations. J. Vis. Exp. (2019)This video demonstrates transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS), a noninvasive method for modulating brain activity. Electrodes are placed on the anterior wall of the outer ear canal and the tragus, targeting the auricular branch of the vagus nerve (ABVN). When stimulated, the resulting nerve impulse...

Auricular Point Acupressure Therapy: A Safe and Effective Treatment for Postsurgical Abortion Recovery

Veins are an integral part of our circulatory system, serving as the blood vessels that transport blood from all body regions to the heart. They are a network of hollow tubes that carry blood low in oxygen from the body's cells back to the heart for reoxygenation. Veins are crucial for maintaining the body's overall fluid balance and the continuous circulation of blood. Structure of Veins: The structure of veins is specifically designed to assist in the low-pressure transportation of blood...
