Stimulation Protocols

Stimulation protocols are standardized patterns for delivering controlled electrical, magnetic, optical, or chemical stimuli to nervous tissue, enabling researchers to examine and influence neural activity. By specifying factors such as stimulus intensity, duration, frequency, timing, and electrode or target location, a protocol can depolarize neurons, recruit synaptic circuits, or alter network excitability in a reproducible way. In neuroscience, these protocols support studies of sensory processing, motor control, plasticity, and brain connectivity, while also informing neuromodulation approaches for neurological and psychiatric disorders. Careful parameter selection and experimental controls are essential for distinguishing direct stimulation effects from broader circuit responses.
