Template Waveforms

Template waveforms are predefined time-varying signal patterns used as references for generating, comparing, or analyzing electrical activity. In neuroscience, they represent features such as amplitude, frequency, duration, and shape, allowing researchers to reproduce controlled inputs or match recorded signals against a standard pattern. Template waveforms support electrophysiology experiments, neural stimulation, signal classification, and instrument calibration by providing consistent test conditions across trials. Comparing measured activity with a template can help identify spikes, oscillations, or other recurring events, improving the reliability of neural data analysis and enabling more precise investigation of how neurons and neural circuits respond to controlled stimuli.

DNA as a Genetic Template

2020

Two structural features of the DNA molecule provide a basis for the mechanisms of heredity: the four nucleotide bases and its double-stranded nature. The Watson-Crick model of double-helical DNA structure, proposed in 1952, drew heavily upon the X-ray crystallography work of researchers Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins. Watson, Crick, and Wilkins jointly received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work in 1962. Franklin was, controversially, excluded from the prize for...

Effective Value of a Periodic Waveform

2024

The concept of effective value, the root mean square (RMS) value, is crucial in understanding electrical circuits and power delivery. This idea emerges from the necessity to measure the effectiveness of a voltage or current source in supplying power to a resistive load. The effective value of a periodic current represents the direct current (DC) that conveys the same average power to a resistor as the periodic current itself. This concept is crucial when assessing AC circuits. To determine the...

2014

Procedures are outlined to prepare segmented and coaxial nanowires via templated electrodeposition in nanopores. As examples, segmented nanowires consisting of Ag and ZnO segments, and coaxial nanowires consisting of a TiO2 shell and a Ag core were made. The nanowires were used in photocatalytic hydrogen formation experiments.
