Calcium Chloride Initiation

Calcium chloride initiation is the controlled addition of calcium chloride to begin calcium-dependent coagulation reactions in pharmacological and hemostasis assays. In citrated plasma, calcium ions are removed to prevent clotting; adding calcium chloride restores free Ca2+, allowing clotting-factor complexes to assemble, generate thrombin, and convert fibrinogen into a fibrin clot. Researchers use this approach to measure clotting time, assess coagulation pathways, and evaluate the effects of anticoagulant or procoagulant compounds. Because the timing and concentration of calcium restoration influence assay results, standardized calcium chloride initiation supports reproducible studies of drug activity and blood coagulation.

This manuscript presents a protocol for establishing a mouse abdominal aortic aneurysm model using calcium chloride and elastase, combining the advantages of previous modeling methods. This model can be utilized to investigate the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying abdominal aortic aneurysms.

Initiation of Translation

2020

Initiating translation is complex because it involves multiple molecules. Initiator tRNA, ribosomal subunits, and eukaryotic initiation factors (eIFs) are all required to assemble on the initiation codon of mRNA. This process consists of several steps that are mediated by different eIFs. First, the initiator tRNA must be selected from the pool of elongator tRNAs by eukaryotic initiation factor 2 (eIF2). The initiator tRNA (Met-tRNAi) has conserved sequence elements including modified bases at...
