Equator To Poles Variation

Equator-to-poles variation describes how a physical quantity changes with latitude between Earth’s equator and poles, an important pattern in planetary physics and geophysics. For apparent gravitational acceleration, the variation results from Earth’s rotation, which produces a greatest centrifugal effect at the equator, and from Earth’s oblate shape, which places the poles closer to the planet’s center. Consequently, measured gravity is generally lower near the equator and higher near the poles. Understanding this latitude-dependent change improves gravimetric measurements, satellite orbit calculations, geodetic surveys, and models of Earth’s interior and global physical systems.

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. DC/DC converters are power electronic converters that convert DC voltages and currents from a certain level to another level. Typically, voltage conversion is the main purpose of DC/DC converters and three main types of conversion exist in a single converter: stepping up, stepping down, and stepping up or down. Among the most common step-up converters are boost converters (Refer to this collections...

Pole and System Stability

The transfer function is a fundamental concept representing the ratio of two polynomials. The numerator and denominator encapsulate the system's dynamics. The zeros and poles of this transfer function are critical in determining the system's behavior and stability. Simple poles are unique roots of the denominator polynomial. Each simple pole corresponds to a distinct solution to the system's characteristic equation, typically resulting in exponential decay terms in the system's response.

Apart from the measures of central tendency, distribution, outliers, and the changing characteristics of data with time, an important characteristic of any data set is its variation or spread. In some data sets, the data values are concentrated closely near the mean; in others, the data values are more widely spread out from the mean. The range, standard deviation, standard error, and variance are the different measures of variation. Range: The range is the difference between its maximum and...

In the field of psychology, there are several ways to organize measurements of a trait, feature, or characteristic (i.e., variables). Qualitative data, such as ethnicity, can be tabulated into a frequency count to provide information about the proportion, as well as the variety of groups in a sample or population. On the other hand, researchers can perform a wider set of calculations on quantitative data. The mean, mode, and median, for instance, are central tendency measures to identify a...

Chemical equations represent the identities and relative quantities of substances involved in a chemical reaction. The substances undergoing reaction are called reactants, and their formulas are placed on the left side of the equation. The substances generated by the reaction are called products, and their formulas are placed on the right side of the equation. Plus signs (+) separate individual reactant and product formulas, and an arrow (→) separates the reactant and product (left and right)...
