Pivot Point

A pivot point in physics is the fixed point or axis about which an object rotates, making it central to understanding rotational motion and mechanical balance. When a force acts on an object, its turning effect depends on the force’s magnitude, direction, and perpendicular distance from the pivot, a quantity described by torque. Pivot points help explain levers, seesaws, hinges, and other rotational systems by showing how forces produce clockwise or counterclockwise motion. Analyzing torque about a pivot allows researchers and engineers to predict equilibrium, mechanical advantage, and the motion of structures and machines.

Pivot Bearings

2025

In mechanical systems, bearings are crucial in facilitating relative motion between two components while minimizing friction and wear. They help distribute various loads (radial, axial or a combination of both loads) across machinery parts, ensuring smooth and efficient operation. A pivot bearing is a specialized type of bearing designed to support axial loads on a rotating shaft. The bearing surface, or the pivot, is positioned at the end of a shaft to support the axial thrust. The pivot may...
